Start from a photograph instead of another avatar. Hair shape, eye spacing and a clear face give the model more useful identity cues than a heavily stylized reference.

Illustration favors clear shapes; oils emphasize texture; watercolor and graphite leave a lighter finish.

Avoid tight crops that remove hair or chin, especially for a profile avatar.

Compare likeness honestly

Stylization may change facial structure. Review the result beside the original photo before choosing it as an identity image.
